It’s easy, in the frantic push of life, to let the little things slide. But oral health care is no little thing! Here are some basics to remember as you try to give your teeth the best care you can.
Brush: Remember to brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. This is a great time to listen to some of your favorite music, or reflect on the day. Try setting a timer if you can’t seem to make it to 2 minutes on your own.
Floss: Be sure to clean between your teeth for 2-3 minutes once a day. This should be done with an ADA Accepted interdental cleaner, such as dental floss, a water flosser, or an approved dental pick. If conventional flossing is difficult, talk to Dr. Asha Kinra about flossing alternatives.
Eat Well: Be sure to eat a tooth-healthy diet, full of calcium, phosphorous, protein, and vitamins. This will help keep your mouth strong. Avoid prolonged contact with acid and sugary foods, and don’t chew on hard substances like ice. These will do damage to your teeth.
Drink Water: Be sure to drink lots of water! Not only is this good for your overall health, but it cleans your mouth, removing food particles and other debris. This prevents bacterial growth. Fluoridated water, available to 75% of the United States, is especially helpful. Fluoride is a substance that strengthens tooth enamel.
Visit Your Dentist: Be sure to visit your dentist at least twice a year. For an appointment in the Jackson, Michigan area, be sure to call Great Lakes Family Dental at 517.787.0550. Our team will be happy to help you!
